FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Hello Friends,
If you look at the news or read the newspaper, the reports are troublesome. Our economy is in bad shape. It’s been said that we are in a recession, and maybe on the verge of a
Depression! Companies are downsizing or closing altogether! People are being laid off!
Job loss is at an all time high! The price of gasoline is rising again, while the price of food has gone up along with everything else!
We look to our Government for the answer—the way out—but none is found! There is no end in sight! Individuals and families are forced to make some hard
choices. “Government Bail Out” is not the answer! The Bible tells us, “[Our] my help
comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:2). Because of
these troubling times, people are becoming more aware of the plight of the homeless
and needy. There is more to be done.
September 5, 2009 will mark Hartford Rescue Mission’s fourth year serving the
homeless and needy in Hartford. We have seen a marked increase in the demand for
our services. We are serving more families and individuals who find that whatever
income they have does not go far enough in this economy to provide food and nutritious
meals every day. Throughout these past four years, it has been awesome to see
God’s hand at work. You have partnered with HRM through your faithful giving because
you know that a difference can be made in individual lives, which in turn can change a
neighborhood, then a community for the better. In these economic times, your gifts are
especially appreciated. I know that it is hard for most of us to stretch our dollars to cover
our daily activities. But, I believe that you are giving from the heart, knowing that in God’s economy what we give to His work, He can multiply beyond measure. Through your gifts, you have enabled us to be a ray of hope to those who have lost hope and are on the verge of giving up.
Your faithful support is an encouragement as we at HRM continually seek to be prepared to step into the vision that God has prepared for the Mission in the Greater Hartford area. To that end, our Board of Directors has developed a strategic plan that will enable HRM to meet more needs and provide additional services to people in need. We hope to share this plan and vision by this fall.
In our current newsletter (access it on our News page), we are focusing on our caring volunteers. Please read how
these individuals and groups have given of themselves to meet real needs and in the process, their own lives
have been changed. From any standpoint, these are exciting times!
